Ayodeji Balogun democratically known as Wizkid has become the first Nigerian singer to win the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) image awards and this time, for the second time.

Doubtful to almost all Nigerians when the piece was aired out. “He sounds American”, so we all said and repeatedly played the song. Though he had some good Singers in the RECORD LEBEL but he still stood out doing amazingly great, fast-tracking to become who he is today in the space of a decade!!
I guess it’s a pride to us having such an awe-inspiring crafter in our very time.

We can intellectually debate on this right….We ( the music inclined Nigerians) could see this coming, from how Wizkid started out with his debut tilted “SUPERSTAR” by Empire Mates Entertainment (EME), every track was a hit banging in all clubs !!

He rose to prominence after releasing “Holla at Your Boy”, the lead single from his debut studio album, Superstar (2011). “Tease Me/Bad Guys”, “Don’t Dull”, “Love My Baby”, “Pakurumo” and “Oluwa Lo Ni” were also released as singles from the Superstar album. Ayo, his self-titled second studio album, was released in September 2014. It was supported by six singles: “Jaiye Jaiye”, “On Top Your Matter”, “One Question”, “Joy”, “Bombay” and “Show You the Money”. Wizkid left E.M.E after his contract expired.

Steadfastly, never a local rating, we found him at national level and in a jiffy he skyrocketed. Today , the world at large celebrates his craft !!

In 2016, Wizkid achieved international recognition following his collaboration with Drake on the global hit “One Dance”, which reached number one in 15 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia. He signed a multi-album deal with RCA Records in March 2017. His third studio album, Sounds from the Other Side, was released in July 2017. It serves as his major label debut and was primarily a Caribbean-influenced record. SFTOS was supported by five singles: “Daddy Yo”, “Sweet Love”, “Come Closer”, “African Bad Gyal” and “Naughty Ride”. Wizkid became the first Afrobeats artist to appear in the 2018 Guinness World Records for his contribution to “One Dance”.

ASSERTION; Nightlife youths in America helplessly opt for his music over other trendy songs on the dance floor. This is the measure for preference, virtually everyone adores Wizkid’s music. “His music brings healing to the soul” so his fans say !

Wizkid earned the award after his collaboration with American singer, Beyonce‘s “Brown Skin Girl” won an award at the 2020 edition of the popular Image awards.
The NAACP Image Awards honors the accomplishments of people of color in the fields of television, music, literature, and film and also recognizes individuals or groups who promote social justice through creative endeavors.
Wizkid won the ‘Outstanding Duo, Group, or Collaboration’ category in 2020, sharing the stage with Beyoncé featuring Saint JHN and Blue Ivy on the same song.
Wizkid was nominated alongside other prominent American artistes like Drake, Chris Brown, Alicia Keys, J Cole, and Miguel.
NAACP took to their Twitter to congratulate the talented artiste.

Inarguably, Wizkid is presently the most-streamed Nigerian artist of all time on Spotify, with over 3.4 billion streams across all credits. With most credits given to One Dance which he was featured by Drake.
Wizkid, a young LEGEND !!
